A positive draw ends West Ham and Newcastle’s clash

Newcastle United forced a 1-1 draw against hosts West Ham on Saturday in the opening 26th round of the English Premier League.

West Ham’s Craig Dawson took the lead in the 32nd minute before Joe Willock equalized for the visitors in the 45th minute. West Ham raised their tally to 42 points in 5th place while Newcastle strengthened their position in 17th place with 22 points.

West Ham went in aiming for the three points to move up to 4th place at the expense of Manchester United, although temporarily, but finished the match with only one point.

Newcastle played in the absence of key players, most notably the long-term Callum Wilson, France’s Saint-Maximin, and England international right-back Kieran Trippier.

West Ham were the better side in the first half, and after their brilliant winger Jared Bowen hit the crossbar (20), defender Craig Dawson gave the lead with a header, taking advantage of a direct free-kick by Aaron Cresswell (32).

In the first minute of stoppage time, Joe Willock equalized when his ball bounced off the post and dashedinto the net.

The second half did not see many opportunities for the two teams to share the match points.
