A precious win for both Valencia and Granada

Valencia returned with a 1-0 win from Elche on Saturday in the 29th leg of Spanish La Liga.

Valencia continued their recent upsurge with a third win in their last four games in which they have not tasted loss.

The only goal of the match was scored by Portuguese international batsman Gonzalo Guedes in the 50th minute.

Valencia consolidated their position in ninth place with 40 points.

Granada breathed a sigh of relief with a precious 3-2 win over Deportivo Alaves.

Joselu wasted the chance to give Deportivo Alaves the lead in the 26th minute when he missed a penalty before Sergio Escudero gave the visitors the lead early in the second half (50).

Deportivo Alaves responded with two goals from Gonzalo Escalante (53) and Manu Vallejo (57), but Granada equalized through Antonio Puertas (75) before Colombian Luis Suares snatched the win in the 87th minute.

Granada put an end to ten consecutive games without a victory (7 defeats and 3 draws), especially since beating defending champions Atletico Madrid 2-1 on December 22 in a postponed game of the ninth stage.

Granada secured their sixth win of the season, lifting their tally to 28 points and rising to sixteenth place temporarily by two points against Real Mallorca, which hosts Espanyol on Sunday.

In contrast, Deportivo Alaves ‘ nineteenth-and penultimate-place woes were compounded by their second loss, the third in their last five games in which they have not tasted victory, and the seventeenth this season.

Deportivo Alaves tally is frozen at 22 points, three points ahead of last-placed Levante, who will host Osasuna later, and two points behind Cadiz, who will host Villarreal tomorrow
