Adidas introduces the Qatar 2022 World Cup ball, “Al Rihla”

Adidas has announced the official match ball for the 2022 Qatar World Cup, dubbed ‘Al Rihla.’

It is Adidas’s 14th consecutive FIFA World Cup ball and is intended to sustain peak game speeds since it travels faster than any ball in tournament history.

The ‘Al Rihla’ gets its name from the Arabic word for ‘travel’ and is inspired by Qatar’s architecture, boats, and flag.

‘This is a magnificent, sustainable, and high-quality official match ball from Adidas that will be appreciated by stars competing at the top of their game on the world’s largest stage in Qatar, as well as grassroots players worldwide,’ said FIFA’s director of marketing, Jean-Francois Pathy.

Franziska Loffelmann, Adidas Design Director For Football Graphics & Hardwear, added: ‘As the game becomes quicker, accuracy and flight stability become vital.

‘The new design enables the ball to travel at a substantially faster rate while in the air.

‘For the sport’s grandest stage, we set out to make the impossible possible via bold innovation by developing the world’s fastest and most accurate FIFA World Cup ball to date.’

The ball is the first FIFA World Cup ball to be entirely printed and glued using water-based inks and adhesives. Franziska Loffelmann, Adidas Design Director For Football Graphics & Hardwear, added: ‘As the game becomes quicker, accuracy and flight stability become vital.

‘Al Rihla’s global voyage will exemplify the FIFA World Cup’s extraordinary reach and provide fans with an unprecedented chance to participate in the event as enthusiasm rises ahead of the big kick-off.’

The ball was created from the inside out, using data and rigorous testing in Adidas laboratories, wind tunnels, and on the field by football players.

Al Rihla is projected to provide the greatest levels of precision and dependability on the field of play, in part because of its novel panel form and texture.
