Reports say that after Erling Haaland joins Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund, they will turn their attention to Aston Villa’s Kalvin Phillips.
Phillips, who is 26, has been a transfer target for Villa for a long time. The club first tried to sign him after being promoted to the Premier League in 2019.
Links to a move to Villa Park started to come up again as the summer transfer window got closer. After Leeds United avoided relegation on the last day of the season, a price of around £60 million was put on his services.
But Pep Guardiola’s City team could be about to deal Villa a huge blow in the transfer market if they pursue a deal for the England international. They look likely to do this after signing Erling Haaland for £51 million earlier today.
The Times says that City is now looking to replace Fernandinho in midfield by bringing in a new player. The Brazilian left City when his contract ended after nine years, and Phillips has been chosen to take his place. City will reportedly try to sign the 26-year-old before they go on their pre-season tour of the United States in the middle of July.
