Manchester United has a long history of nurturing young players. Sir Alex Ferguson’s Class of ’92 helped him win several awards. Their academy is now filled with talent, including Hannibal Mejbri, D’Mani Mellor, Charlie McNeil, and, most recently, Toby Collyer. This season, though, the name on everyone’s lips has been Alejandro Garnacho.
The 17-year-old is quickly climbing the ranks and is a regular with the U23s. Garnacho’s outstanding performances have earned him his first senior call-up to the Argentine national team. Furthermore, he made his Premier League debut in the closing few minutes of United’s 1-1 tie at Old Trafford.
Who is Alejandro Garnacho?
Before this season, fans may not have been acquainted with the name, but that is no longer the case. Alejandro Garnacho came up through the youth system of Atletico Madrid, another prestigious institution. He was playing for Infantil B at the time and was the top scorer for Spain’s minor squad in 2016.
Garnacho made his U19 debut in the 2019-20 season at the age of 15. He put in good performances throughout the season, and Atletico were ecstatic.
Unfortunately for them, many teams in Europe were as well. Manchester United won the bidding war for Garnacho, and he did not disappoint. In his first season with the U18s in 2020-21, he recorded seven goals and four assists.
It’s worth noting that his hero is Cristiano Ronaldo, therefore Garnacho is now living a dream by practicing with his idol.
What is Alejandro Garnacho’s Potentail ?
Needless to say, Garnacho’s ceiling is the sky. He’s been ripping it up for the U18s while also making the jump to the U23s. Alejandro Garnacho has already made a significant contribution, including a pivotal part in the FA Youth Cup. United advanced to the competition’s final after defeating Wolves 3-0 in the semi-finals.
Garnacho was one of the show’s standout performers, scoring once and grabbing a brace. Despite the fact that he has yet to make his senior debut, the urge to play him will only grow. Anthony Elanga has shown how young players can adjust to the fast tempo of the Premier League.
Garnacho, no sure, will be trying to follow in his footsteps and break into the squad shortly. Marcus Rashford’s form has dipped alarmingly, perhaps opening the way for Garnacho.
Alejandro Garnacho stats and form
Garnacho has become the academy’s best scorer in season 2021-22, with 15 goals and seven assists. In nine Premier League 2 outings, he has already scored twice and assisted once. Furthermore, it is not just the amount of goal contributions but also the manner in which they arrive.
Alejandro Garnacho has been succeeding in a lot of ways, making observers ecstatic. He has scored from set-pieces, breathtaking solo runs, devastating long-range goals, and more. The epitome of an all-around talent who will only improve with maturity. Garnacho has already lit up Old Trafford, despite largely playing at Carrington.
He scored one goal each in two FA Youth Cup matches against Scunthorpe and Everton, including a Gareth Bale-Esque finish against the latter.
Alejandro Garnacho, like his hero, is a speed demon on the flank. His favorite position is on the left, although he can also play on the right. Garnacho excels in one-on-one scenarios, bending opponents with his arsenal of talents. He is aware of his ability to outrun them and use them on a frequent basis.
Garnacho’s ability to know where his teammates are, assists him in locating passes with ease. Furthermore, his ability to fire from a variety of distances makes him a danger anytime he rushes at defenses.
Garnacho has shown that he is not hesitant to take risks in order to assist his squad win. If he can maintain his current form, he will join a long history of celebrated wingers who have taken the Red Devils by storm.
