Samuel Lino has been signed by Atlético Madrid from Gil Vicente in Portugal. The 26-year-old has agreed to terms with the Rojiblancos on a five-year contract. The transfer cost has not been disclosed, although it is estimated to be approximately €6.5 million.
Lino is “a dynamic player who can play on both flanks, distinguishing out for his pace and outstanding ability to confront opposition defenders,” according to the club’s official release. Lino told the club’s reporters, “I am extremely speedy and can play on the wings.” I like dribbling and attacking the defense, but I also enjoy defending and assisting the team.”

Lino began his career with So Bernardo in his home Brazil before transferring on loan to Flamengo and then to Gil Vicente in Portugal, where he appeared in 99 games. He enjoyed his greatest season in Europe last year, finishing sixth in the Primeira Liga with 12 goals and five assists.
Atlético must decide how many non-Europeans may be included in their roster. With pre-season commencing on Sunday, they now have Santiago Arias, Felipe, Matheus Cunha, Nehuén Pérez, and now Lino. Although the club’s lack of right-backs is problematic, Santiago Arias is undoubtedly on his way out. Pérez, a 22-year-old center-back, is another player who might be loaned out.
