According to L’Equipe, AS Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni is close to sealing an €80 million summer transfer to Real Madrid, with the Spanish giants expected to win the race. This summer, the highly regarded 22-year-old has been linked with moves to some of Europe’s top clubs.
Following an outstanding season with AS Monaco, many anticipated the French giants to maintain their finest players after clinching a place in the Champions League. However, with Aurelien Tchouameni having been strongly linked with a transfer during the season, it seems to be easier said than done. However, although ESPN indicated that Manchester United and Liverpool were the front-runners, Real Madrid has pushed ahead in recent days.
Los Blancos are desperate to make up for the loss of Kylian Mbappe and are hence prepared to pay roughly €80 million on Tchouameni. L’Equipe corroborated this, and the French news site also said that the sale is nearing completion, with just a few technicalities remaining to be worked out. The French midfielder is expected to sign a five-year deal with Los Blancos, who see him as a long-term successor for Casemiro.
However, the transfer is not finalized, allowing Manchester United, Liverpool, and Chelsea to make final bids, despite Tchouameni’s preference for Real Madrid. Furthermore, according to L’Equipe, the Los Blancos have been in contact with the 22-year-old since January and are convinced that they will get their man this time, with the intent on renewing their aging midfield.
