Barcelona eliminate Galatasaray and reach the Europa League quarter-finals

Spanish club Barcelona reached the quarter-finals of the Europa League by beating host Galatasaray 2-1 on Thursday in the second leg of the round of 16.

Brazilian defender Marcao opened the scoring for the Turkish side from a header in the 28th minute before Pedri Gonzalez equalized for Barcelona in the 37th minute following a remarkable team play for the Catalan side.

In the second half, Barcelona scored the lead through Gabonese Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the 49th minute as Xavi Hernandez’s men managed to keep the score until the final whistle and move on from the competition after winning the home and away games (2-1) as the first leg in Barcelona ended in a white tie.

The match was Barcelona’s last preparation before the much-anticipated Clasico against La Liga rivals Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium on Sunday, although their hopes for the domestic title appear slim.
