Barcelona expected to complete signing of Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso

According to reports, Barcelona expects to complete the signing of Marcos Alonso for just £6.5 million this week.

The club has even scheduled his debut for the left-back.

According to AS, Xavi spoke with the Chelsea star on Tuesday to finalize the details of his long-awaited summer transfer.

According to reports, the two clubs have reached an agreement after the Spaniard submitted a transfer request.

However, there may be additional complications if the Nou Camp club is unable to register Alonso immediately, following their struggles to get league chiefs to approve their other new signings.

Alonso has completed a full pre-season with Chelsea and is fit and ready to compete for the left-back spot with Jordi Alba.

Barcelona is still hoping to sign Bernardo Silva from Manchester City if they can send Frenkie de Jong to Chelsea.

The Blues have already signed Alonso’s replacement, Marc Cucurella from Brighton, for a fee of £62 million.

Alonso, 31, is expected to travel to Barcelona by Tuesday at the latest to complete his medical and sign the paperwork on a two-year contract with an option for an additional year.

That means he should be available to make his debut for his new club on the second day of the new LaLiga season, when Barcelona travels to Real Sociedad on August 21.
