Barcelona snatch a valuable draw from Espanyol

Barcelona did not get the result they had been waiting for in the Catalonia derby against their neighbor Espanyol, wasting a chance to strengthen their fourth place.

Barcelona secured a valuable draw against hosts Espanyol 2-2 in the 24th round of the Spanish La Liga. The match saw the red card leveled equally between the two teams in the second minute of stoppage time with Pique being sent off by Barcelona and Melamed for Espanyol (90+2).

Pedri gave the visitors an early lead after Jordi Alba’s cross was placed in Diego Lopez’s net (2).

Darder took advantage of poor control on the edge of the Barcelona penalty area when he struck a clever ball that German Ter Stegen could not counter (40).

While Barcelona were looking for the winning goal following the participation of Gabonese Aubameyang, the response was reversed thanks to Raul de Thomas (64).

Barca had plenty of aces, led by Frenchman Ousmane Dembele and Dutchman Luke De Jong, who gave his side a last-minute draw (90+6).

Espanyol increased its tally to 28 points in13th place, while Barcelona 39 points in 4th place, equaling in Atletico Madrid in 5th.
