Benzema named UEFA champions league player of the season following Madrid’s big win against Frankfurt
Unsurprisingly, Karim Benzema has been named UEFA Champions League player of the season for the season 2021/22.
Last season, the forward was in career-best form, scoring 15 goals and assisting twice as Real Madrid won their 14th UEFA Champions League title.
Benzema’s best performances during the tournament came against PSG and Manchester City, when his goals brought Los Blancos back from the brink of elimination to advance.
Last season, Benz became the joint-third (along with Robert Lewandowski) highest goalscorer in UEFA Champions League history, with 86 goals in Europe’s premier competition.
On Wednesday evening, the France international wasn’t the only Real Madrid player to win an award; his teammate Vinicius Junior was also named UEFA Champions League young player of the season.
Vinicius had a breakout season in 2021/22, scoring 22 goals in competitions, four of which came in the Champions League.
