Sunday night was terrible for Karim Benzema not only because he missed a penalty for his team against Elche (2-2) in the league and got injured, but also because his house was robbed during the game, police sources said.
“The player realized what happened when he returned home after the game and discovered that everything was tampered with at home,” the sources said, adding that he did not yet know what had been stolen from the house. According to initial investigation results, the thieves climbed on the outer fence and entered the house by breaking the glass.
The French international striker has joined a long list of players whose homes have been robbed while playing matches, most recently The Swedish Defender of Manchester United, Victor Lindelof. In October 2019, Spanish police and Europol announced the dismantling of a network of thieves who had placed Atletico and Real Madrid players among their main targets. According to Spanish media, Benzema was among the targets of this network, as his Real Madrid teammate Casemiro and Ghanaian Thomas Partey, who defended Atlético’s colors before moving to Arsenal.
