Boca Juniors sign former Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero

Boca Juniors have officially finalized the free transfer acquisition of goalkeeper Sergio Romero. Romero was formerly playing for River Plate.

Romero, who was a goalkeeper for Manchester United from 2015 until 2021, has signed a two-year contract with what he refers to as “the greatest team in Argentina.”

The veteran, who is now 35 years old, began his professional career in Argentina with Racing Club, but in 2007 he traveled to Europe to play for AZ.

Before joining Manchester United as David de Gea’s backup goalkeeper, Romero was a goalkeeper for Sampdoria and Monaco. His most recent international appearance for Argentina came in 2018.

He played for Venezia during the previous season, making 16 appearances for the club in the league, but he was unable to save them from being demoted to Serie B.
