Boca Juniors win Maradona Cup against Barcelona

Boca Juniors was crowned with Maradona Cup after beating Barcelona on penalties after the match ended in a 1-1 draw between the two teams in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The meeting took place nearly a year after Maradona died on 25 November 2020, at the age of 60 from a heart attack. The match was attended by the family of the world cup winner at the 1986 World Cup in Mexico ,with a large number of Saudi club presidents, former and current players, as well as a number of media professionals who came from several countries to cover the match, as well as a large crowd.

Maradona wore the Boca Juniors shirt twice, first in the 1981-82 season and then in 1995, in his last two professional seasons in a long career. He also played in Barcelona colors for two seasons between 1982 and 1984, playing 58 games and winning the Copa del Rey, before moving to Napoli where he achieved his huge success.

Barcelona, who started with a team of youngsters scored for Ferran Jutgla (51) and Boca Junior equalized with Exequiel Zeballos (76). Dani Alves the 38-year-old, who returned as a free agent after leaving the Catalan club in June 2016, was involved for the first time after leaving the Club In June 2016, with his new-old team to take part in official matches from January.
