Borussia Dortmund wins 3-1 against SC Freiburg after a late comeback
Borussia Dortmund scored three goals in 11 minutes late in the second half, rallying from a goal down to defeat Freiburg 3-1 in the Bundesliga on Friday.
After a goalkeeping error, England youth international Jamie Bynoe-Gittens equalized in the 77th minute before weaving past three players to assist Youssoufa Moukoko in the 84th. Marius Wolf won in the 88th minute.
Dortmund had begun with new striker Anthony Modeste, who had been signed as an emergency replacement for Sebastien Haller, who is being treated for a malignant tumor. The hosts, however, took the lead with Michael Gregoritsch’s looping header, his second goal of the season.
Dortmund lacked precision, and Freiburg had the better chances after the break, with Gregoritsch firing over the bar after being left unmarked for the second time.
Dortmund launched their comeback after being gifted an unexpected equalizer by Mark Flekken, who attempted to block a 25-metre shot from teenager Bynoe-Gittens but allowed the ball to slip through his hands and into the net.
Bynoe-Gittens should have done better in the 83rd minute when he was sent through but failed to hit the target, but he made amends with a superb run to start the move that saw Moukoko make it 2-1 in the following minute. Wolf, who came on at halftime, then secured the points and Dortmund’s second win in two league games.
