Chelsea announced on Monday the extension of veteran Brazilian defender Thiago Silva’s contract until the summer of 2023.

Silva, 37, came to the Blues in the summer of 2020 from Paris Saint Germain and has played 22 matches in various competitions this season. Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia said: “Thiago Silva’s experience, leadership, and performance have been and continue to be very important to this team, so we are very pleased to extend his contract for another year.”
Silva said: “Playing with Chelsea is real fun. I never thought I would play here for three years at this great club, so I’m very happy to stay for another season.”
