AC Milan are preparing to offer Chelsea target Rafael Leao a new long-term deal as they are unwilling to sell him for less than £127 million to the Premier League heavyweights.
Leao, who joined AC Milan from Lille in 2019, scored 14 goals in all competitions for the Serie A giants during the 2021-2022 season, helping them win their first league title since 2011.
As a result, despite the fact that he is under contract with AC Milan until June 2024, several clubs have expressed interest in signing Leao this summer.
Chelsea is one of the European clubs that has expressed interest in signing Leao. They were impressed by his win as Serie A’s Most Valuable Player last season.
Leao has won the individual award during the 2021-2022 season, following in the footsteps of former winners like as Romelu Lukaku, Paulo Dybala, and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Despite the fact that Chelsea have recently confirmed the purchase of Raheem Sterling from Manchester City, Thomas Tuchel believes Leao would be a good addition to his squad.
According to La Gazetta Dello Sport, AC Milan has chosen to grant Leao a new long-term contract, therefore ending Chelsea’s prospects of a transfer swoop.
The 23-year-old is under contract at San Siro until 2024 and is thought to want to stay in Italy after having one of his most successful seasons to date.
While Milan, who qualified for the Champions League for the first time in seven years, is eager to bolster their roster and retain their most valuable players for the coming season.
Chelsea will be devastated by the news. The Premier League heavyweights, on the other hand, will be ecstatic that they have secured the services of Sterling, who completed his big move on Wednesday.
