Corentin Tolisso, a France international midfielder, has finalized his return to Lyon from Bayern Munich, the French Ligue 1 club confirmed on Friday.
The 27-year-old, who joined Bayern Munich from Lyon for 41.5 million euros in 2017, was out of contract with the Bundesliga champions and has signed a five-year agreement with the French club.
The club said in a statement that Tolisso’s return demonstrates “the huge aspirations of Lyon and the desire for the club to win trophies again.”
Tolisso, a part of France’s World Cup-winning squad in 2018, won five German Bundesliga championships with Bayern and the Champions League in 2020, but he has battled multiple injuries.
He appeared in just 15 games last season, scoring twice and assisting once.
His return follows that of another ‘old boy,’ striker Alexandre Lacazette, who was touted as returning from Arsenal last month.
Lyon’s president, Jean-Michel Aula, said that the club wished to “rediscover their DNA.”
Last season, Lyon finished ninth, missing out on European participation.
