Liverpool continued their remarkable results this season, stressing their serious fight in the competition for the English Premier League title.
Liverpool beat Wolverhampton 1-0 on Saturday in the 15th stage of the English Premier League. Belgian substitute Origi scored the winning goal for Klopp’s team in stoppage time in the second half 90 4, taking advantage of the pass of Egyptian Mohamed Salah.
At the Molyneux Stadium, despite Liverpool’s control of the first half, the home side showed great cohesion and vigilance in the back lines to succeed in reducing the seriousness of the Egyptian duo Mohamed Salah and Senegalese Sadio Mane, while the most dangerous chance was for Portuguese Diogo Jota, who received a cross at the far post and hit it with his head outside the three woodwork (32).
Liverpool increased their pressure in the second half against a shy rebound for Wolverhampton and Jota took advantage of the latter’s foul on the goalkeeper and singled out the goal against two defenders, but Wolves captain Connor Cody saved it from the line. Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp pushed his attacking weapons represented by Belgian Divock Origi and Oxlade-Chamberlain, and after a missed opportunity from Mane countered by the goalkeeper (86), Origi succeeded in scoring the winning goal in the fourth minute of overtime after a solo effort for Salah and fired the ball in the net after a spin inside the area.
Thanks to this victory, Liverpool climbed to the top of the Premier League temporarily after raising their tally to 34 points, taking advantage of Chelsea’s loss against West Ham but quickly abandoned it after Manchester City (35 points) beat Watford. Newcastle achieved their first league victories by beating Burnley with a clean goal scored by Wilson (40), while Southampton drew with Brighton with a goal like that.
