Digne to Aston Villa & Newcastle with a new signing

French left-back Luca Digne moved from Everton to Aston Villa, the two English clubs announced on Thursday.

Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa tweeted welcome to his new player: “New deal. Welcome our new French flying player Luca Digne.” For his part, the French international said: “I am really happy to be here, it is a big project after signing Coutinho. The Aston Villa project is really interesting, you can see that the project is going in the right direction, and I think everyone wants to be a part of it.”

“I came here for the manager, it was the main reason I joined Aston Villa, I had a good meeting with him and we talked a few times this month,” Digne said. While the value was not mentioned, British media estimated the 28-year-old’s transfer deal at around €30 million.

Newcastle sign Chris Wood from Burnley

Newcastle United have signed striker Chris Wood from Burnley. The New Zealand star signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with his new team, without mentioning the value, while media sources confirmed that Newcastle had paid the £25 million release clause.

Chris Wood became Newcastle’s second winter deal to stay in the English Premier League after English international Kieran Trippier.
