Fabio Carvalho presented as an official Liverpool player
After formally introducing Fabio Carvalho as their new acquisition on Sunday, Liverpool has given him the number 28 jersey at Anfield.
Carvalho’s arrival to Merseyside has taken a long time, with the Reds attempting to recruit him on the last day of the January transfer window.
They were unable to conclude a deal at the time, but Carvalho voiced his excitement at joining Jurgen Klopp’s side six months later.
‘It’s an incredible sensation to be here at one of the world’s largest clubs, if not the world’s largest. So I’m just glad to be here and can’t wait to get started,’ Carvalho told Liverpool’s official website.
‘Once you hear that Liverpool is interested, you have just one thought: join them and attempt to be in and around the squad.’ I’m hoping to do great things.
‘I chatted with everyone, even the manager, and it seemed very normal.’ It’s so much simpler to make a choice when things become normal.’
Carvalho will wear the number 28 jersey next season, replacing Ben Davies, who has been assigned the number 24 jersey.
Last season, the 19-year-old enjoyed a breakout season at Craven Cottage, scoring 10 goals and giving eight assists in the Championship and playing a major part in the team’s championship success.
In January, he also scored against Manchester City in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
The Portugal Under-21 international will now try to push his way into Klopp’s starting lineup in 2022-23 as Liverpool attempt to improve on last season’s cup double.
