Fabio Vieira to join Arsenal from FC Porto

Fernando Rio, who once ran for president of Porto, has criticized the club for selling Fabio Vieira to Arsenal.

On Thursday, the Portuguese giants confirmed the terms of a deal that was made out of the blue. The deal is worth an initial €35 million plus €5 million in add-ons if certain clauses are met in the future.

The 22-year-old, on the other hand, was said to have a release clause of around €50m, and Rio was very critical, saying that Porto’s decision to accept a lower fee could affect the future of manager Sergio Conceicao.

“The financial administrator had already said that between €70 million and €100 million in capital gains would need to be made this year,” he told Rádio Renascenca. “I was already waiting for the bleeding to start.”

“It’s clear that we have to ignore the costs of middlemen. We never know if they are high or low in Porto, but they are usually quite high.

“President Pinto da Costa has been talking a lot about numbers and saying that players at Porto can only be traded through the release clause, but we can see that this is not true.”

“At this point, I think Sérgio Conceicao is very angry. He also said that now that Porto is no longer part of UEFA, they could put more money into making the team more competitive. This is because they are starting to see their best players leave. This may affect whether he wants to stay in the club or leave.

Standard Sport has heard that the deal for Vieira won’t stop Arsenal from trying to sign Youri Tielemans. Tielemans wants to leave Leicester this transfer window because his contract is coming to an end.

The Belgian has been on Arsenal’s radar since January, and he is eager to make the move, even though he had said he wanted to play in the Champions League next season.
