Just hours after arriving at the club for his physical, Fiorentina announced the acquisition of Real Madrid misfit Luka Jovic on a free transfer.
Jovic was beaming when he arrived in Florence for his physical on Friday afternoon, ready to put his Real Madrid nightmare behind him.
Jovic joined Real Madrid three years ago for £62 million from Eintracht Frankfurt, but he failed to make an impact, scoring just three goals in 51 games.
Fiorentina announced the signing of Jovic on their official social media platforms on Friday evening, ahead of the 2022-2023 season.
‘Real Madrid C. F. and ACF Fiorentina have signed a contract for the transfer of Luka Jovic,’ Real Madrid said in a statement.
‘Our club would like to express its appreciation for his labor and commitment while at Real Madrid, where he won one Champions League, two LaLiga crowns, and two Spanish Super Cups.’
‘Real Madrid wishes him [Jovic] and his family all the best in this new phase of his life,’ the statement said.
Fiorentina have agreed to sign Jovic on a permanent basis after Real Madrid decided to part ways with the 24-year-old.
The two clubs explored a possible loan agreement for Jovic, but Real were keen to move on from him and instead negotiated a 50% sell-on option.
Jovic is anticipated to replace Arthur Cabral in La Viola’s starting XI, with supporters excited to see what their new addition can achieve.
Jovic will be trying to assist Fiorentina improve on their seventh-place position in 2021-2022.
