Inter at the top and Juventus turns the tables on Roma

Inter beat Lazio 2-1 in the 21st stage of Serie A.

Inter increased their tally to 48 points, ahead of one point against AC Milan, the first of which has a postponed match against Bologna in the middle of this week due to the outbreak of coronavirus in the ranks of the latter. At the home, Inter beat Lazio 2-1. After VAR canceled out a goal by Argentine striker Lautaro Martinez 17 minutes later, his team opened the scoring by Alessandro Bastoni with a powerful shot with his left foot(30). Lazio’s top scorer Ciro Immobile quickly responded five minutes later. Slovakian defender Milan Skriniar sealed the score in Inter’s favor in the 67th minute.

Inter entered the match against Lazio under great pressure as their neighbor Milan achieved before that, a big away victory with a clean treble over hosts Venezia temporarily snatched the lead. Napoli and Atalanta insured their spots in the top four with wins 1-0 over Sampdoria and 6-2 over Udinese.

At the Olympic Stadium in the capital, Juventus turned the table on Roma, after being down by 3-1 before beating them 4-3 dramatically.

Roma took the lead with a goal for England striker Tammy Abraham after 11 minutes, but Argentina’s Paulo Dybala quickly equalized (18). Juventus’ woes were worsened by a knee injury to their star and international winger Federico Chiesa, who has just returned to the field after recovering from a groin injury that has kept him out of action since last November. Chiesa, who was injured during contact with Roma’s English defender Chris Smalling, remained on the pitch for a few minutes. Before he had to leave his place for Swedish international Dejan Kulusevski (32).

Roma led by two quick goals early in the second half through Armenian playmaker Henrikh Mkhitaryan (48) and Lorenzo Pellegrini (53), but Juventus responded by scoring three goals in seven minutes. Manuel Locatelli (70), Kulusevski (72), and Mattia de Sciglio (77) took turns. Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt was sent off for a second yellow card, causing a penalty, but Pellegrini wasted and deprived his team of a precious point (84).

Roma threw all their weight late in the game in an attempt to score a survival goal without succeeding. Juventus increased their tally to 38 points in fifth place.

Sassuolo returned with a big win from Empoli 5-1, Spezia snatched a precious victory from hosts Genoa 1-0, and Salernitana won away to Hellas Verona 2-1.
