Jose Mourinho’s first visit to his former club Inter since leading them to a historic treble in 2010 was not a success as his current side Roma was knocked out of the Coppa Italia quarter-finals with a 2-0 loss.
Mourinho arrived at Inter for the first time as an opponent of the” Nerazzurri” since he left the latter immediately after leading him to the treble of the league, the domestic cup, and the Champions League in 2010 in order to take over at Real Madrid.
Mourinho returned to Serie A this season to take charge of the capital side, and his first encounter with Inter fell to a clean three when the two teams met at the capital’s Olympic Stadium in the sixteenth leg of the league in early December.
The Portuguese received a standing ovation from the Inter crowd, who held up a banner saying “Welcome Jose to your home”.
Inter needed this victory after Saturday’s painful defeat in the derby against neighbors Milan 1-2 in the league after being ahead of the “Rossoneri” until the 78th minute before conceding two goals through Frenchman Olivier Giroud.
Inter took the lead after 2 minutes of kick-off with a goal by Edin Dzeko, former Roma striker. Alexis Sanchez added the second goal in the second half (68) ta seal a deserved victory for the league champions.
