Ivan Perisic: Tottenham capture the wideman

As Antonio Conte has already been backed in the transfer market this summer, Tottenham swooped in to sign Ivan Perisic for free.

Perisic, who is 33 years old, has signed a two-year deal with Spurs that will last until the summer of 2024. He is back with Conte, who was his coach at Inter Milan.

The Croatian international spent the last seven years at Inter, where Conte led the team to the Serie A championship in 2020-21.

Here’s what the winger who used to play for Bayern Munich, Wolfsburg, and Borussia Dortmund said about his move to the Premier League.

How will Perisic fit into the team?

In this Conte system, he will mostly play on the left side, and he can also play as a left wing-back. He and Ryan Sessegnon will compete for that starting spot.

But he can also play right wingback and in more advanced positions on either side. This gives Conte more options when Heung-min Son, Harry Kane, and Dejan Kulusevski need a break in the attack.

Perisic’s character and experience will be more important than where he will play for Tottenham than where he will play. This should rub off on the rest of the team.

He has won big titles at Dortmund, Wolfsburg, Inter, and Bayern, and he scored in the 2018 World Cup final for Croatia. He always gives great performances from a wide range of positions. He works so hard up and down the flank, and the 3-4-3 system Conte uses is perfect for him.

This transfer shows that Tottenham’s leaders are now giving Conte exactly what he wants, and the Italian coach will almost certainly sign a new long-term contract very soon. Perisic, like Conte, is a winner, and Spurs’ decision to sign him shows that they are willing to pay high wages when opportunities like this come up.
