Klopp shares his post-match conversation with Mane, as the Senegal forward dismisses rumors of a transfer to Bayern Munich.
Sadio Mane said he is “happy” at Liverpool after his winning goal against Aston Villa momentarily tied the Reds with Manchester City at the top of the Premier League standings.
Mane’s future has been thrown into question this week after rumors of interest from Bayern Munich, but Jurgen Klopp has emphasized his significance in keeping Liverpool’s quadruple ambitions alive.
“He’s a machine,” Klopp said on Sky Sports after the game. “A huge player with devastating physicality. A combination of skill, passion, and physicality.
“You can tell [he has] a few yards in the legs, to be honest.” He’s a great, world-class player.”
With Mohamed Salah beginning on the bench in the 1-1 draw with Tottenham, Liverpool were even more dependent on the Senegal attacker.
In his post-match interview, Mane was asked whether he was glad to remain at the club this summer, and he said, “When we won the trophies, I was happier.” I’m simply trying to enjoy every moment while scoring and assisting my teammates.”
Liverpool had to survive an early fright when Alisson spilled Douglas Luiz’s header, which the 24-year-old bundled into the goal.
However, that advantage lasted just three minutes, as Joel Matip equalized from close range before Mane’s headed goal from a Luis Diaz cross.
“It was a terrific cross from Diaz and I was in the box, so I simply had to put it in,” Mane said. “I normally score even when I don’t have power, which I attempted to do.”
Sky Sports commentator Jamie Carragher described Mane as his “favorite player.”
“I’m a major Sadio Mane fan, and I can tell you he’s not going anywhere because I won’t allow him to go to Bayern Munich because he’d have me to deal with!” he joked later.
Mane’s performance was regarded as “amazing” by captain Jordan Henderson.
“The job he performs with the ball for the team, defending in the end, was great,” he said. “But his talent in and around the box – isn’t it the gym with those neck muscles?”
