Levante overcame Real Sociedad 2-1 on Friday, with Gonzalo Melero converting a 90th-minute penalty kick to keep its prospects of avoiding relegation in the Spanish league alive.
The win moved Levante out of last place and left the Valencia club three points from safety heading into the weekend games.
The defeat harmed Sociedad’s prospects of qualifying for the Champions League, as it remained in the sixth position, five points behind Atlético Madrid in the last qualification berth. It was the Basque Country club’s fourth straight defeat.
In the 53rd minute, Jorge Miramón opened the scoring for the hosts, and David Silva equalized for Sociedad in the 66th.
