On Thursday, Levante were demoted from LaLiga after being hammered 6-0 by Real Madrid, with Vinicius Junior netting a hat-trick.
Bottom club Levante needed to win to keep their diminishing prospects of survival alive, but that optimism was swiftly dashed by a furious Real.
Real, who will play Liverpool in the Champions League final later this month, took the lead via Ferland Mendy before Karim Benzema and Rodrygo scored to make it 3-0.
Vinicius scored shortly before the halftime break before adding two more in the second half to send Levante to their 19th loss of the season.
Mendy scored in the 13th minute following a quick counterattack instigated by Luka Modric, and Benzema doubled their advantage six minutes later after heading in a Vinicius cross.
It was Benzema’s 44th goal of the season, tying him with Raul Gonzalez for second place on Real Madrid’s all-time scoring chart with 323 goals.
Only Cristiano Ronaldo has more goals than him (451).
With 27 goals this season, the Frenchman is enjoying a career year.
Rodrygo scored the third goal with a close-range drive after being set up by Modric, who also assisted Vinicius’ opening goal.
Vinicius grabbed onto a Benzema cross in the 68th minute before sealing Real’s victory seven minutes later with a close-range shot.
Federico Valverde fired two bullet shots off the crossbar for Real Madrid.
“We’ve arrived well at this point, our self-esteem has improved significantly, and the squad is having fun,” coach Carlo Ancelotti said during a press conference.
“It will be difficult for us to remain focused and maintain the same energy in this period between winning LaLiga early and facing Liverpool in the Champions League final.”
“The team showed really positive indicators today, playing with rhythm and energy.” High intensity is exactly what we desired.”
