Lionel Messi wins his 7th Ballon d’Or

Argentina’s Lionel Messi, the Paris Saint-Germain player, was crowned the Ballon d’Or for the seventh time in his history at a ceremony in Paris on Monday evening.

Messi, 34, won the 65th edition of the Ballon d’Or awarded by France Football magazine, beating Poland’s Robert Lewandowski, Bayern Munich’s second-placed striker, while Italy’s Jorginho and France’s Karim Benzema came fourth and Chelsea’s Ngolo Kante in fifth place.

Messi succeeded in tipping his hand in the award’s race, thanks to the Copa America title this summer, the first in the colors of his country in 16 years.

Messi, who won the Spanish Cup with Barcelona last season before joining Paris Saint-Germain this summer, said: “It’s incredible.To be here again.Two years ago, I thought this was my last year and today I’m in front of you again.”
