London will host the first edition of the upcoming showdown between Italy the European Cup winners and Argentina, who won the Copa America title on June 1, 2022, UEFA announced.
The famous Wembley Stadium is likely to host the match named ”Finalissma”. The showdown is part of a renewed memorandum of an agreement between UEFA and its South American counterpart Conmebol until 2028, which will see two more editions, as well as next year’s match. The two federations opposed a proposal by FIFA to hold the World Cup every two years instead of four. And within the agreement between the two sides, a joint office will be opened in London with the aim of strengthening cooperation between continental federalists starting in early 2022.
Wembley Stadium hosted the Euro 2020 final between England and Italy last July and ended with a win for the Italy team by penalty kick (3-2) after a 1-1 draw in the original and extra time, as this meeting was overshadowed by the storming of fans without tickets around the stadium. Despite this black point, the stadium, the home of English football, remains a favorite place for UEFA, with its 90,000 capacity and special facilities, will also host the 2024 Champions League final.
Argentina ended a 28-year wait for a major championship title after clinching the Copa America title at the expense of host Brazil 1-0 in July.
