Lyon have finalized the signing of Shakhtar Donetsk winger Tete on a season-long loan contract.
Les Gones have availed advantage of FIFA and UEFA’s special transfer window to assist international players fleeing Ukraine and Russia as a result of the region’s continuing war.
Southampton were convinced earlier this week that they had secured an agreement to sign Tete from this summer forward, but with the Premier League prohibiting the usage of this new transfer window, Lyon moved quickly to sign the Brazilian.
Tete has been revealed on a three-month agreement, but Lyon have made it clear that they want to keep him beyond this season.
“Tete has joined till the end of the season,” Lyon general manager Vincent Ponsot announced. We’re also addressing issues in the longer term, since we’d want him to remain beyond the conclusion of the season. For us, he is a top-tier recruit. I’d want to express my gratitude to his entourage.
“The player’s will was crucial. Tete, I believe, saw that OL is a club with ambition and ideals.”
90min reports that Lyon utilized their current crop of Brazilian players to persuade Tete that a transfer to France was the best option for him, and he has conceded that the club’s lengthy history of success with his countrymen was a factor in his decision to join with them.
“I am delighted to be coming to Lyon, a fantastic European club. I am certain that I can contribute to the team’s success. I’ve been treated well, I’m content, and I’m prepared to give it my best. OL has a strong history with Brazilians, which influenced my selection,” Tete said.
