Manchester City goes tough with five on Sporting

English club Manchester City swept host Sporting Lisbon with a clean five in their stronghold on Tuesday in round 16 of the Champions League knockout stages.

Algerian international Riyad Mahrez opened the scoring for City in the seventh minute, Portugal’s Bernardo Silva added the second goal in the 17th minute and Phil Foden the third in the 32nd minute, before Silva scored the fourth in the 44th minute of the first half to make City the first team to lead by 4 goals at the end of the first half of an away game in the Champions League knockout stages.

In the second half, Raheem Sterling reinforced the score for the”Citizens” with the fifth goal with a beautiful shot in the 58th minute.

The task of Sporting Lisbon has become very complicated in the return meeting, which will be held in Manchester on the ninth of March.
