Manchester City strengthen their lead and Chelsea continue losing points

Manchester City continued their successive victories and strengthened their lead when they deepened Newcastle’s injuries with a clean four, while Chelsea continued to bleed points by falling into the trap of a goalless draw against hosts Wolverhampton on Sunday in the 18th stage of the English League.

In the first game, the defending champions settled the result of the game in the first half by scoring two goals with a Portuguese flavor, the first was early and specifically in the fifth minute through international defender Ruben Diaz with a header following a cross by his compatriot Joao Cancelo, who added the second goal with a powerful shot from outside the area following a pass from Algerian international Riyad Mahrez. Mahrez boosted Manchester City’s lead with the third goal early in the second half when he took advantage of a cross from Ukrainian international defender Aleksandar Zinchenko inside the area and followed it with his left inside the goal (63). Raheem Sterling sealed the festival with the fourth goal when he took advantage of a ball from a wonderful individual play from Brazilian international striker Gabriel Jesús from the left, who ball followed easily inside the empty goal.

It was Manchester City’s eighth consecutive win and 14th of the season, cementing their position in the lead with 44 points. Newcastle, on the other hand, suffered their 10th loss of the season, freezing their tally at 10 points in the 19th place.

The London club requested that the match be postponed two hours before its launch, but the league refused on the grounds that the Blues had enough players to play in accordance with English Premier League regulations. A Chelsea spokesman said: “We are very disappointed that our request was rejected because we felt we had a strong argument for postponing today’s match on the basis of the health and safety of the players.”
