Monaco moves up to fourth place with a victory at Rennes

AS Monaco climbed up to fourth place in Ligue 1 thanks to goals from Vanderson and Wissam Ben Yedder. On Friday, goals from Ben Yedder and Myron Boadu secured them a 3-2 win at Stade Rennais, putting them one step closer to a place in Europe next season.

Flavien Tait, a Rennes midfielder, scored in the third minute with a header into the bottom left corner after being set up by defender Hamari Traore.

The home side’s advantage lasted barely nine minutes, as Monaco midfielder, Aleksandr Golovin found defender Vanderson in the area and the Brazilian struck a first-time effort into the far corner of the goal.

Monaco seized the lead in the 58th minute when Germany’s Kevin Volland sent a brilliant header for Ben Yedder, who scored his 19th goal of the season.

Boadu won Monaco’s fourth consecutive win when he rifled the ball from close range to make it 3-1 in the 77th minute before Rennes attacker Martin Terrier scored a late penalty in stoppage time.

Monaco is fourth in the table, with 53 points from 32 games, three points behind third-placed Rennes, and one point ahead of Racing Strasbourg, which has a game in hand.
