Napoli beat AC Milan and rise to second place

Napoli defeated AC Milan on Sunday in the 18th round of Serie A with a clean goal and finished second in the table.

Milan entered their match against Napoli being unable to defeat them since the San Siro 2-0 victory in December 2014. Napoli opened the scoring when North Macedonian international Eljif Elmas followed up with a ball with his head from Poland’s Piotr Zielinski inside the net (5). This is the Macedonian’s second in 18 league games this season. Milan responded with a header from veteran Swedish star Zlatan Ibrahimovic, which passed alongside the woodwork (18).

Milan entered the second half determined to equalize, with Ibrahimovic almost scoring Milan’s first ball between the three woodworks of the match, but Napoli’s veteran Chilean goalkeeper David Ospina countered with a brilliant save(49). Brazilian Junior Messias made a new attempt but his shot passed over the crossbar (68). In an attempt to activate the attacking front, Milan coach Stefano Pioli involved veteran French striker Olivier Giroud in place of Spain’s Ibrahim Diaz, but with not much impact. Milan scored the equalizer in the 89th minute through Ivorian midfielder Frank Kessie, which was canceled out after returning to the VAR.

Napoli increased their tally to 39 points in second place, trailing by a margin of 4 points from Inter, and ahead by Goals from Milan.
