Napoli narrows the gap with Inter

Napoli boosted the pressure on Inter and are one point behind them with a 2-0 away win over Venezia on Sunday in the 24th week of the Italian Serie A.

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen made his first start since November after suffering a fractured cheek and wore a special face shield. Osimhen, who missed the African Nations Championship, was a reserve for two matches after recovering from injury.

Osimhen gave his team the lead with a header in the 59th minute after hitting the post in the first half. The southern side finally complete the score in the tenth minute of stoppage time via Andrea Petagna.

Inter have 53 points with 52 points for both Napoli, who rose to second place and Milan in third.

Juventus took advantage of Atalanta’s surprise 1-2 home loss to Cagliari and beat Verona with two clean goals thanks to the new players signed during the winter transfer window to snatch fourth place.

Dusan Vlahovic, who was signed from Fiorentina and wore the no. 7 shirt worn by former Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo, opened the scoring for the Old Lady after 13 minutes when he received a neat ball from Argentine Paulo Dybala and shot it past keeper Lorenzo Montipo to score his eighteenth goal of the season and share the top scorer with Lazio and Italy striker Ciro Immobile. Swiss international newcomer Denis Zakaria added the second goal with a pass from Spaniard Alvaro Morata (69).
