Nayef Aguerd joins West Ham coming from Rennes

Nayef Aguerd, a Moroccan defender, has joined West Ham from Rennes in France.

The 26-year-old player, who has played for his country 25 times, has signed a five-year deal with the Premier League team.

David Moyes, the manager of the Hammers, wanted to bring in a left-footed center-back over the summer.

At London Stadium, Aguerd will play against Craig Dawson, Issa Diop, Angelo Ogbonna, and Kurt Zouma.

Moyes said on the club’s website, “I’m happy to have Nayef join West Ham United. We’ve been keeping an eye on him for a while, and I’m glad we were able to finish the signing.

“He’s a great addition who will give us more ways to defend.

“Nayef’s personality and attitude have really impressed me during our talks. He wants to get better and do well, and I’m sure he’ll do well in the environment we have at Rush Green (training ground).”

Aguerd began his career in his home country with FUS Rabat. In 2018, he moved to France to play for Dijon. In 2020, he moved to Rennes.

“When I heard that West Ham United was interested, I was really happy,” the player said.

“When I heard about it, I knew I had to play in the Premier League since it’s every player’s dream.

“West Ham is an old team. I talked to the manager, and he showed me that he was very interested, so it was easy to decide to come to West Ham.”
