Nice strengthened their second place with a victory over Nantes 2-1 on Friday in the opening of the 21st stage.
Nice finished second after raising its tally to 39 points, ahead by a margin of 3 points from Marseille, who meet Lille, the titleholder and tenth in the standings on Sunday, knowing that the Mediterranean club has a postponed match. Nice opened the scoring through Danish striker Kasper Dolberg (21 pk) and Khepren Thuram (56). In response, Nantes defender Andrei Girotto scored the only goal for Nantes (45).
Nice secured their fourth consecutive league victory and fifth in various competitions, including a win over Rennes and Lens, who are competing strongly for qualifying positions in European competitions. Christophe Galtier’s men, crowned with Lille as champions last season, ended a four-match unbeaten streak in the league, including three wins and a 0-0 draw in the last stage against Monaco.
