Nice reached the quarter-finals of the French Cup after beating Paris Saint-Germain with a penalty shootout (6-5) after the end of the original time with a negative draw at the Parc des Princes.
Nice hit a date with Marseille in the quarter-finals of the competition. Argentine star Lionel Messi was a key player for PSG, while striker Kylian Mbappe sat on the bench before taking part in the last half hour. The other Argentine star Angel Di Maria has also missed, while Brazilian Neymar has not recovered from an injury that has kept him out of action in the last two months. Paris Saint-Germain were the better side against their domestic league runners-up, but their players did not find their way to goal amid the visitors’ defensive grouping.
After the original time ended in a draw, and because the competition laws required the use of penalty shootouts directly, Nice’s goalkeeper shone and stopped the Argentine Daniel Paredes and the young Xavier Simon penalties.
