Palmeiras defeat Flamengo and win Copa Libertadores

Brazil’s Palmeiras retained their title as Champions of the Copa Libertadores of South American clubs after beating their compatriot Flamengo 2-0 on Saturday night at the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo, Uruguay’s capital.

Raphael Veiga opened the scoring for Palmeiras in the fifth minute before Gabriel Barbosa equalized for Flamengo in the 72nd minute, ending the original time of the match with a 1-1 draw.

In the first extra half and from a serious mistake to the defense of Flamengo, The Palmeiras striker Deyverson was able to snatch the winning goal for Palmeiras, who secured the second consecutive participation in the Club World Cup, that they finished fourth in the last version of the tournament.

It was the third title in Palmeiras’ history after winning the championship in 1999 and 2020.
