Paris Saint-Germain beat Manchester United in the race for Vitinha, a midfielder for Porto.
The 22-year-old had played in the Premier League before with Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2020-21. In the 2021-22 season, he became a regular player for Sergio Conceicao’s team.
Vitinha played 47 games in all competitions, scoring four goals and setting up five others. He started 27 Primeira Liga games in the middle of the field, which helped Porto win back the top-flight title.
The former Wolves loanee has also played three times for the Portugal national team. However, he only has two years left on his contract at Porto, so he is likely to leave in the summer.
Man United was thought to be very interested in signing Vitinha, and recently, the president of Porto, Pinto da Costa, said that the club had turned down an offer for the midfielder from a bidder who did not want to be named.
“There was a real offer for Vitinha that was worth a lot of money, but we didn’t take it. We told them about the release clause, which is the only way they could get our player “Record was told by Da Costa.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano says that the 22-year-old Vitinha is now on his way to Paris, so it looks like the Red Devils will have to give up on Vitinha.
Paris Saint-Germain have already prepared for medical tests and paperworks to complete Vitinha deal with FC Porto. Deal wanted by Luís Campos, his first signing will be Portuguese. ⭐️🇵🇹 #PSG— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) June 18, 2022
One English club was interested in Vitinha but been told it was not Man United.
Romano says that Vitinha will cost the French champions €40 million (£34.2 million), and the player has already agreed to personal terms with Les Parisiens.
The two clubs are now preparing the paperwork to make the deal official, and PSG are set to make Vitinha their first signing of the summer under new football advisor Luis Campos.
The Portuguese midfielder is getting ready to leave Porto. He has won two titles in the Primeira Liga and two in the Taca de Portugal and has played 59 times for the club.
But it’s unlikely that Vitinha will work for Mauricio Pochettino since the Argentine is thought to have been fired after less than two years on the job.
Contacts are made with Nice over Christophe Galtier, as Ruben Amorim and Zinedine Zidane are also possible candidates to take over at Parc des Princes.
Man United, meanwhile, has already been let down by a transfer because Darwin Nunez chose to sign with Liverpool. Now, they have to put their midfield efforts somewhere else.
Frenkie de Jong of Barcelona is still being talked about, and Erik ten Hag’s team is said to be getting ready to step up their pursuit of Adrien Rabiot of Juventus.
Vitinha is about to become the second young midfielder to leave Porto early in the summer transfer window. Fabio Vieira, who is also 22 years old, is close to making a move to Arsenal.
The deal was confirmed by the Portuguese champions on Friday morning, and the Gunners will pay €35m (£29.9m) up front for the versatile attacking midfielder.
