PSV beat Ajax 5-3 to win the Johan Cruijff Shield

Football club Eindhoven PSV launched the football season with a 5-3 triumph against Ajax on Saturday evening, taking the Johan Cruijff Shield, commonly known as the Dutch Super Cup. The game was PSV’s first official match under new coach Ruud van Nistelrooij. Ajax, which won the league championship last season, has a new coach in Alfred Schreuder as well. PSV’s Guus Til had a hat trick, while Cody Gakpo had two assists and a goal. For the Amsterdammers, Steven Bergwijn, Antony, and Mohammed Kudus scored.

Luuk De Jong with the Trophy

‘Everyone got it through the game unscathed, and a lot of guys made their debut,’ Van Nistelrooij told ESPN after the game. ‘We scored five fantastic goals and took home a trophy.’ This was something to savor, a wonderful start.’ Schreuder said that his side has shown a lot of promise in terms of possession and offense, but that more work has to be done in defense. PSV will face AS Monaco in the third round of Champions League qualification on Wednesday. Ajax’s next game is this weekend against Fortuna Sittard in the Eredivisie.
