Qatar 2022: Why is this World Cup being hosted at a unique date?
The forthcoming FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 will be truly unique: even before a single game is played, it will go down in soccer history as the first time this event is not hosted in the spring or summer.
Soccer fans throughout the world prepare to attend the FIFA World Cup four years after the celebration of its previous edition. The primary soccer tournament transforms summer into the greatest time of year to host it. However, Qatar 2022 will be a watershed moment in history because it will be the first time that this tournament will be staged in the final months of the year.
From Sunday, November 20 to Sunday, December 18, the entire world’s attention will be focused on the Middle East, which is another another reason to regard Qatar 2022 as a historic edition of the FIFA World Cup: this region of the world has never before had the opportunity to host this event.
To be clear, there is a primary reason for breaking with the custom established for 21 editions over 92 years in the FIFA World Cup celebration date, and that reason is to benefit and protect the major characters of the show, the players, and everyone who will attend Qatar 2022 events (fans and media). Find out why.
Why the Qatar 2022 World Cup is being held in June and July?
In December 2010, FIFA confirmed that Qatar would be the host country for the 22nd World Cup. In the election, the Middle Eastern country defeated Australia, the United States, South Korea, and Japan.
The high summer temperatures were one of the soccer community’s first worries about hosting the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. It is common to have days with temperatures as high as 132°F (106°F on average), making it impossible to practice soccer without endangering the health of the players, spectators, media, and general staff.
FIFA considered technology as the primary solution to combat the high temperatures of the Qatari summer. The host country for the 2022 World Cup was expected to construct “a special cooling system on the pitch and in the stands.” However, it may not be enough.
Then, in March 2015, the bomb detonated: FIFA abandoned its hunt for strategies to combat Qatar’s high summer temperatures and announced that the 2022 World Cup will be held between November and December for the first time in soccer history.
Temperatures anticipated during the tournament in Qatar 2022
What will the temperature be in Qatar if the World Cup is played in the last months of 2022, as is the only way to commemorate this tournament? In November and December, this Middle Eastern country experiences temperatures ranging from 68°F to 86°F, which is only 41 degrees hotter than the temperatures experienced by the soccer community during the Russia 2018 World Cup.
Another result of FIFA’s decision to celebrate Qatar 2022 by the end of the year is that the World Cup will be the shortest since the one hosted in Argentina in 1978, with only 28 days of activity instead of the regular 32 days.
