Raphinha’s transfer to Barcelona is finally over – pending a medical
When Leeds United announced that Raphinha would not be joining them on tour in Australia, it was clear that the club believed the deal could be completed in a matter of days.
Barcelona has been struggling financially for some time, but they have finally made a satisfactory offer to sign the Brazilian star.
Leeds will receive approximately €58 million in addition to significant add-ons. Although, thanks to a sell-on clause included in the deal to bring Raphinha to Elland Road, some of that will go to his former club Rennes.
Raphinha only wanted to join Barcelona and would have preferred to stay at Leeds rather than join Chelsea, who had a bid accepted weeks before Barcelona could.
However, his agent, Deco, held off on any serious talks with Chelsea in order to force Leeds and Barcelona to reach an agreement.
Raphinha scored 17 goals and had 12 assists in 67 appearances for Leeds United last season, helping the club secure Premier League survival on the final day.
