Tammy Abraham scored twice as Roma won 3-0 against Torino on Friday, securing a place in Europe for next season ahead of the Europa Conference League final next week.
Both goals were scored by Abraham in the first half of Roma’s last Serie A encounter. In his debut season with the Italian club, the England international scored 26 goals in all competitions.
“I would have liked to get three to complete a hat trick for my team, but the most important thing is that we won.” “stated Abraham “We wanted to end the season on a high note. It’s been a long and difficult season, and I’m proud of my teammates. We’re all delighted since we now have a final to look forward to.
“I fell in love with this club from the first day, as I’ve always stated. It’s been an excellent year for me. I’d want to improve on this year and ideally conclude with a trophy; that would be the ideal year.”
Roma’s Lorenzo Pellegrini converted a second penalty 12 minutes from time.
It was Roma’s first Serie A victory in more than a month, and it assured José Mourinho’s squad finished at least sixth, guaranteeing a place in next year’s Europa League regardless of what the teams below it do on Saturday.
On Wednesday, Roma will face Feyenoord in the Europa Conference League final.
Both Abraham’s goals came as a result of Torino’s defense making critical errors.
The host team lost the ball away in its own half in the 33rd minute, and Pellegrini found Abraham, who turned Torino defender David Zima inside out before riding a challenge and blasting into the bottom right corner.
Roma extended their lead after Torino defender Ricardo Ivan Rodriguez delivered a terrible back ball and goalkeeper Etrit Berisha tripped Abraham in his effort to get to it.
Three minutes before halftime, Abraham calmly struck the subsequent penalty through the center.
Pellegrini scored the penalty after replacement Nicol Zaniolo was barged over by Alessandro Buongiorno in the second half.
