Liverpool beat Everton 4-1 on Wednesday in round 14 of the English Premier League.
Jordan Henderson (9), Mohamed Salah (19 and 64), and Diego Jota (79) scored for Liverpool, while Demarai Gray scored Everton’s only goal in the 38th minute. Liverpool is in third place with 31 points.
Liverpool entered the game armed with three consecutive victories, including two in the league at Anfield with a clean four against Arsenal and Southampton on Saturday, including a 2-0 win over Porto in the Champions League. Unlike him, neighbors Everton does not have their best days, entering the game with 14th place in the standings.
The Merseyside derby has always taken on a special character among the neighbors, with Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp speaking before the clash, expressing concerns about the intensity of the matches and their negative impact on his players, specifically on Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk and Portuguese Jota returning to the field after a long period of absence due to injury. Van Dijk missed most of last season after suffering a serious injury to Everton in last year’s derby following friction with international goalkeeper Jordan Pickford. Salah increased his scoring tally to 13 goals at the top of the Premiership rankings.
Chelsea hardly against Watford
Chelsea held on to the top of the standings with a 2-1 win over Watford at Vicarage Road. The London club maintained the top spot by a margin of one point from defending champions Manchester City, who also beat hosts Aston Villa with the same result, and two points from Liverpool, who beat neighbors Everton in the Merseyside derby 4-1. After Chelsea and Watford were suspended for some time due to a health condition in the stands that required resuscitation, the men of German coach Thomas Tsquel suffered to settle the score, as the guests waited until the 73rd minute to score the winning goal byMorocco’s Hakim Zeyash, after the Blues had opened the scoring through young Mason Mount (29) before Emmanuel Denis equalized for the holders two minutes before the break (43).
Manchester City were able to return with three points against Aston Villa. Pep Guardiola team scored by Portuguese Ruben Diaz (27) and Bernardo Silva (43) and Ollie Watkins (47) for the Villans. Wolverhampton, in turn, were content with a goalless draw against Burnley, with West Ham’s 1-1 draw with Brighton and Southampton 2-2 against Leicester.
