Senegal 0-2 Netherlands: Dutch team strikes a late double to beat Senegal

Cody Gakpo and substitute Davy Klaasen gave the Netherlands a 2-0 victory over Senegal in the second match on Monday.

In the 84th minute of the Group A match at Al Thumama Stadium, Gakpo rose to head in a cross from Frenkie de Jong for the Netherlands’ first shot on goal. Klaasen added a second goal at the end of eight minutes of stoppage time by tapping in after Memphis Depay’s shot was weakly blocked by Edouard Mendy.

The orange-clad Dutch fans were subdued until the late goals, as Senegalese drums and chants dominated the stadium for the majority of the game. Without the injured forward Sadio Mane, Senegal was unable to convert any of its scoring opportunities.

In his first international match for the Netherlands, goalkeeper Andries Noppert made three impressive saves to deny the Senegalese.
