Real Sociedad and Real Betis drew 0-0 in the Spanish league on Friday after a fan brawl injured a group of Betis fans.
According to Spanish media, an extreme fan group from Sociedad attacked roughly two dozen Betis fans in the streets of San Sebastián, Basque Country, injuring four of them. According to the police, two people were detained as a result of the incident.
The violence was denounced by both clubs.
With six rounds remaining, the draw kept Sociedad and Betis in contention for a Champions League spot.
With a win, Betis could have moved ahead of Atlético Madrid and into fourth place, while Sociedad could have drawn level with Atlético before the defending champion visits Espanyol on Sunday.
The encounter was one of two league meetings Betis had before the Copa del Rey final versus Valencia on April 23. On Tuesday, Manuel Pellegrini’s club will play Elche.
David Silva, a veteran Sociedad player, was sent off in stoppage time after receiving two yellow cards a few minutes apart.
Sociedad is unbeaten in its past seven league home games and has not conceded a goal in any of them. Betis has won five consecutive league games.
