Ten Hag calls Ronaldo’s behavior “unacceptable” amid departure speculations

Cristiano Ronaldo was seen leaving Old Trafford early during Manchester United’s friendly on Monday (AEST), fueling the fire.

Ronaldo led the Red Devils in scoring last season with 24 goals and started the game against the LaLiga side on Sunday, but he was replaced at halftime by 20-year-old Amad Diallo.

The Portugal international was then seen leaving the stadium midway through the second half of a game that United eventually drew 1-1.

The former Real Madrid star is said to have told United that he wants to leave in order to play Champions League football, which the Red Devils cannot provide after finishing sixth in the Premier League last season.

However, a number of major European clubs have backed away from signing Ronaldo, with Chelsea and Bayern Munich reportedly not interested in signing the 37-year-old.

He had not participated in United’s pre-season training until last week, and his early departure from Old Trafford only added fuel to the fire ahead of their Premier League opener against Brighton and Hove Albion on Monday (AEST).

According to reports, Ronaldo was not the only player who left the stadium before the weekend game ended.

The premature departures clearly did not impress Ten Hag, who stated, “It is unacceptable for everyone.”

“I’m telling them that it’s not acceptable.” We work as a group. A team. We’ll be together until the end.”

United’s point total of 58 in 2021-2022 was its lowest in a Premier League season, but new manager Ten Hag will hope that the addition of defender Lisandro Martinez from his former club Ajax strengthens the team.

Christian Eriksen, a creative midfielder, and Netherlands international Tyrell Malacia have also been signed, though the Frenkie de Jong saga with Barcelona continues, with Chelsea reportedly interested.
